Sprint to Add 100 Jobs at OKC Call Center

Sprint plans to add 100 jobs to its Oklahoma City Customer Solutions Call Center.
Once the jobs are filled, the office will have 1,000 employees to serve new and existing customers. And Sprint officials have found that as technology advances, more and more calls ring in from their more than 26 million customers in more than 100 countries.
The Oklahoma City call center maintains more of the higher-level customer service positions, such as a trouble specialist group that helps customers with technical difficulties and, more simply, helping customers figure out how to utilize all of the newer and flashier features that come with the newer and flashier phones.
Based on the fact that we have higher-level customer service positions, we get a lot of transfer calls from the other centers, said Karen McKinney, human resources manager at the call center. That's one of the reasons we're increasing our service to our customers is we want to make sure that they're taken care of quickly and get those transfers handled, so we're increasing our numbers.
Business is doing very well, she said, which has enabled the company to hire additional staff. Sprint's annual revenues in 2003 were more than $26 billion. And because of the phones that now come with cameras and other higher-tech features, such as more complex hand-sets, call volume has increased dramatically.
We're trying to get these people hired and on board by November, because our peak season usually is between Thanksgiving and Christmas, when a lot of people like to buy cell phones as presents, McKinney said, adding that the company has a high sales spike during its fourth quarter.
The company will host a job fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at 8525 Silver Crossing in an effort to get as many applicants processed as possible. Positions sought to be filled include direct-hire customer service and inside sales specialists responsible for communicating with customers to answer questions, review billing, evaluate customer needs and provide Sprint telecommunication solutions to address those needs. Positions include a base pay plus an incentive and commission program.
In addition to the Oklahoma City office, Sprint operates contact centers in Rio Rancho, N.M.; Fort Worth; Bristol, Va.; Sacramento, Calif.; Charlotte, N.C., and Orlando.
Sprint provides local communications services in 39 states and the District of Columbia and operates the largest 100 percent digital, nationwide PCS wireless network in the United States.
