E-Band Communications Corp., a leading developer of multi-gigabit capacity wireless communication systems based on 70/80 GHz millimeter wave radio technology, today announced the appointment of Bo Hedfors to the company's Board of Directors.
"We are delighted to have Bo Hedfors join our Board," said Sam Smookler, CEO of E-Band. His experience, vision and leadership are a great addition to our team and will help E-Band to accomplish our goal of delivering the industry's most cost effective solutions for hi-capacity wireless systems to interconnect converging next generation cellular, WiMAX and IP-based networks."
Hedfors is a seasoned industry veteran with nearly 40 years of global telecommunications experience in both wire-line and wireless technologies. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Motorola and President of the company's global wireless infrastructure business. Prior to Motorola, Hedfors spent 30 years at Ericsson in key management positions including President of Honeywell Ericsson Development Co. in Anaheim, California; Chief Technology Officer of LM Ericsson in Stockholm, Sweden; and President and CEO of Ericsson, Inc. in Dallas, Texas.
In addition to E-Band, Hedfors is member of the board of Tellabs in Illinois, SwitchCore AB in Sweden, Silicon Valley based companies Openwave, and privately held Kineto Wireless and Firetide. He is also currently engaged as advisor to several small private and large public communications companies globally.
Hedfors joining E-Band's Board of Directors reflects support for E-Band's distinctive business approach and confidence in the market demand. E-Band is well underway in creating strategic partnerships with technology providers, such as recently announced OEM agreement with ADC, sales channel partners and potential customers. E-Band's ultra-high capacity wireless communications products, called E-Link™, operate in the licensed 71GHz to 86GHz spectrum and utilize leading-edge RF Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) technology. E-Link™ provides fiber-speed wireless communications links within a 1--5 mi range. With this system, wireless service providers can concentrate and backhaul the vast amounts of digital IP-based wireless traffic and serve as a substitute for fiber in last mile metropolitan access networks.
