NetLogic Microsystems Ships 300MHz Enhanced Evaluation Kit for Knowledge-Based Processors

Posted on: Monday, 11 October 2004, 06:00 CDT

Evaluation Kit Allows Customers and Developers to Work with High-Performance, PCI-based Prototypes for Networking Applications

NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced the availability of an enhanced evaluation kit that supports 300MHz operation of the NL5000-family of knowledge-based processors. The evaluation kit comes with an evaluation card, software suite with sample scripts and test cases, allowing system architects to quickly prototype networking applications using a Windows(R)-based PC prior to having their own board and ASICs available.

"It is critical that easy-to-use evaluation solutions are available to accelerate time-to-market, increase system performance and reduce development costs for designers of next-generation networking equipment," said Martyn Humphries, vice president of marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. "For customers using our NL5000 knowledge-based processor family for their complex communications applications, our 300MHz evaluation kit is a proof point of our continued commitment to developing and maintaining the highest standards with the necessary support for our customers to succeed."

The evaluation kit enables customers to use the PCI-based evaluation card to develop and verify intended applications at operating speeds of 300MHz for the highest performance and with a 1.0V core voltage for lowest power. Customers can run cycle-accurate patterns through an on-board FPGA that fully exercises the functionality of NetLogic Microsystems NL5000 devices and confirm compatibility with target applications. The evaluation card supports up to four depth-cascaded NL5000 products, accommodating more than two million IPv4 or half a million IPv6 records.

Designers can use the evaluation kit to develop test cases for rapid simulation of the device with tens of millions of cycles using the provided Perl-driven scripts. These scripts also provide the ability to automatically check the device output against expected results. The card can be integrated into customer-specific test platforms with the supplied drivers and software to provide high-level programming of test cases.

Additionally, system designers can use the comprehensive tools to evaluate ASIC/finite state machine architectures, develop software and algorithms and calculate power budget by performing power benchmarking, thus accelerating development time for applications. The evaluation kit also includes a user manual and reference designs for schematic capture, board layout, power supply and decoupling.
