LynuxWorks Teams With Vector Software to Provide Military and Avionics Markets With Streamlined Certification Solutions
Posted on: Thursday, 10 May 2007, 09:00 CDT
LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in the embedded software market, today announced an agreement with Vector Software, a leading provider of software test tools for embedded systems, through which Vector's VectorCAST(TM) product will support the LynxOS-178 Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). The combination of the two products allows customers to take advantage of the first and only COTS operating system to receive acceptance for reusability from the FAA for DO-178B certification. The joint offering will provide developers with unparalleled systems assessment capabilities and a streamlined certifications process, pushing end products in the avionics and defense markets to market faster, at lower cost and with more reliability.
VectorCAST(TM) will integrate with the LynxOS-178 RTOS to scan Ada and C/C++ source code, automatically generating the test code necessary to construct executable test harnesses for both host and embedded environments and ensuring that component simulation models are continuously up-to-date. In addition, by employing VectorCAST(TM) test procedures into the LynuxWorks' RSC, developers can significantly decrease the time required for software certification and maintenance across various design projects and minimize the overall costs of avionics equipment.
"Partnering with Vector Software expands our services for the military and aerospace markets -- and makes the jobs of developers in those key industries easier," said Robert Day, vice president of marketing, LynuxWorks. "The addition of VectorCAST(TM) to our expanding testing and certification capabilities allows LynuxWorks to continue leading a new era of safety, security and productivity for critical system development."
"At Vector Software, we are committed to delivering the industry-leading verification tools developers of embedded software applications need," said Bill McCaffrey, director of marketing at Vector Software. "This integration of VectorCAST(TM) with the LynxOS-178 RTOS further illustrates the importance that both the companies lay on providing solutions that are safe and reliable to the military and aerospace industries."
The LynxOS-178 RTOS is a hard real-time operating system proven to meet RTCA/DO-178B, Level A requirements. It offers the interoperability benefits of POSIX(R) and support for the ARINC 653 APplication EXecutive (APEX). LynxOS-178 is also the first RTOS to achieve RSC certification from the FAA, reducing risk, time and cost when certifying avionics applications.
LynxOS-178 supports both Intel(R) Pentium(R) and PowerPC(R) platforms. Based on open standards, the system is designed specifically to fulfill the stringent needs of multithread and multiprocess applications in safety-critical real-time systems.
Vector Software's VectorCAST(TM) is a world-class integrated software test solution that automates the tasks associated with testing software components for C/C++, Embedded C++, and Ada83/Ada95 programs. Automation includes: complete test harness construction, test generation, test execution, code coverage analysis, regression testing and static measures for code complexity and basis path analysis. VectorCAST enables companies to significantly reduce the time, effort and cost to validate safety-, mission-, and business-critical systems.
