Broadcast International (OTCBB: BCST) and Center 7 today announced that they have signed a Letter of Intent in which Center 7 will license BI's CodecSys video compression technology for resale to Center 7's clients. Upon its completion by the IBM/BI joint development team, Center 7 has also been granted the right to deploy the first encoder featuring the CodecSys multi-codec software on the IBM(R) BladeCenter(R) QS20 "Cell Blade." This synergistic combination of technologies will significantly improve performance and reduce costs associated with video compression.
Customers are demanding the delivery of better quality video over existing networks. For distribution centers like Lindon, Utah-based Center 7, that means coming up with efficient storage and compression solutions. With the deployment of the IBM/CodecSys encoding system, Center 7 will be enabled to deliver the highest quality video content over the lowest possible bandwidths. At the same time, storage requirements will also be minimized. Center 7 anticipates its existing PilotCenter customers in the medical, education and IPTV markets will quickly take advantage of this new service offering.
"The CodecSys system provides the answer to our biggest video delivery challenge: high-quality delivery over existing networks," said Nathan Hatch, President & CEO of Center 7, Inc. "This partnership will allow our customers access to the most robust video compression technology available today."
"Center 7 operates world-class managed hosting facilities and delivers software-as-a-service and service management platforms that are highly valued by many prominent clients," said Rod Tiede, Broadcast International CEO. "We are gratified that Center 7 is convinced, not only of the powerful compression resulting from the combination of our CodecSys multi-codec encoding software with IBM's multi-core processor, but also that the new system will be almost infinitely upgradeable."
