Frost & Sullivan Honors Level 3 Communications With 2004 Technology Innovation Leadership Award

Posted on: Tuesday, 12 October 2004, 06:00 CDT

Frost & Sullivan's recent study, ATM & Frame Relay Opportunities for the Wide Area Networking Markets, acknowledged Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) for its technical innovations in communications such as the (3)Flex(SM) Data Services suite.

Level 3's unique (3)Flex Data Services suite enables data networking services to replace multiple networks with a single, vastly enhanced, and economical backbone for corporate wide area networks (WANs), disaster recovery networks, Internet provider (IP) backbones, and other applications. The suite offers diverse services such as the (3)Flex Network IP virtual private network (VPN), (3)Flex Ethernet, (3)Flex Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and (3)Flex Frame Relay.

"The (3)Flex suite ensures the company's partners a clear migration path to using next generation services such as integration of different data services and to converge voice, data, and video with high reliability," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Vinod Ramanathan. "All (3)Flex services offer enhanced end-user value such as a fully meshed secure network for customers, providing end-to-end services with sophisticated security features and industry leading service level agreements."

(3)Flex ATM and (3)Flex Frame Relay are high-speed services with tight security that enable customers to build their networks with private point-to-point connection. These services offer very high visibility to the customers and ready access to the network performance through an online customer service centre. Additionally, customers pay only for actual bandwidth used as opposed to the traditional flat monthly rate.

The (3)Flex service suite also supports Level 3's venture of the world's first IP-based fiber optic network by aiding in a smooth transition from legacy applications to IP-based networks.

For its demonstrated technological superiority within its industry, Level 3 is this years' recipient of the Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation Leadership. This award recognizes the ability of the company to successfully develop and introduce new technology, formulate a well-designed product family, and make significant product performance contributions to the industry.
