Lucent software helps improve network operations and call completion rates
Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) announced today an agreement with MetroPCS, Inc., a wireless service provider, to provide software that will improve the reliability and service support for MetroPCS's wireless network.
Under the agreement, Lucent will supply MetroPCS with its NetMinder(TM) Network Trouble Patterning (NTP) software and Remote Technical Support Advantage (RTS-A) services provided by Lucent Worldwide Services.
Developed by Bell Labs, Lucent's NetMinder(TM) NTP software provides MetroPCS with a comprehensive network level view of services across a wide range of network elements from a single screen, allowing MetroPCS to quickly and easily identify network failures. Using Lucent Worldwide Services' RTS-A services, MetroPCS will be able to maintain, enhance and improve its network hardware and software remotely.
"Our customer foundation is based on the quality, availability and cost effectiveness of the services we offer," said Roger Linquist, president and CEO of MetroPCS. "The implementation of Lucent's software enables us to meet those expectations by helping us easily identify the root cause of sometimes hard-to-find network problems."
Unlike traditional fault management systems that only detect physical errors, Lucent's NetMinder NTP software detects logical problems -- like provisioning or routing errors, changes in customer usage or overall call quality and completion rates -- across an entire network. By using a threshold-based analysis and correlation tool, the software can identify potential problems and errors before they happen, enabling MetroPCS to optimize their network performance and service level quality before identified problems impact customer service.
"With today's advanced services, wireless carriers must address a wide variety of internal and external network issues," said Yolande Harrison, Software Sales Manager for Lucent Technologies. "Our NetMinder(TM) NTP software helps simplify those issues and enables customers to quickly identify and resolve problems before they happen."
