National Lampoon, Inc. (AMEX:NLN), the most widely recognized brand in comedy, today announced the formation of the National Lampoon Video Network, a broadband network that premiers with many of the Internet's leading content platforms.
Initial distribution partners for the National Lampoon Video Network are Veoh, Joost™, Handheld Entertainment (NASDAQ:ZVUE), GoFish (OTCBB:GOFH), Lycos, BiggyTV and YouTube (NASDAQ:GOOG). These relationships have been formed in addition to the online distribution partnerships National Lampoon already has in place with AOL Video and Brightcove, and supplement National Lampoon's own video portals, "Nationallampoon.com" and independent broadband channel "TogaTV.com".
The news of these partnerships will significantly increase National Lampoon's reach on the web, providing the National Lampoon brand of sophomoric college comedy to more people in more places than ever before. In addition, it provides National Lampoon advertisers with multiple platforms from which to reach audiences as they will not only benefit from the high trafficked National Lampoon site but also the combined audience that the National Lampoon Video Network sites share.
The Network's launch and initial syndication partners were announced today by National Lampoon Chief Executive Officer Daniel Laikin.
"Formation of the National Lampoon Video Network reinforces our commitment to the marketplace, to original comedy content, and to our young adult audience," Laikin said. "Our ability to come out of the gate with such a prestigious, broad-based group of distribution partners also reflects a clear acknowledgement that we, our brand, and our content are highly valuable and relevant today," he added.
The National Lampoon Video Network joins the National Lampoon Humor Network, the most-trafficked humor sites on the Internet, as key tentpoles of National Lampoon's online and digital media strategies.
"We are thrilled to be making these partnerships in the online entertainment world and feel they underpin our commitment to embracing the changes facing the entertainment business today. We want to ensure that National Lampoon content is always timely and accessible, which in today's climate with our college audience means being online and across as many platforms as possible," stated Laikin.
"Combining these networks with our other ventures, including National Lampoon on AOL, our Brightcove partnership, and our independent broadband channel, TogaTV, gives us a strong presence as this marketplace grows. With these new partnerships we look forward to offering our audience and advertisers a great deal more."
All National Lampoon content available on these platforms will be advertiser supported and free to the consumer. In addition some partners will offer National Lampoon digital downloads to buy. Content will be available domestically and internationally and will consist of both short and long-form clips. Additional content announcements, launch dates and syndication partners are expected shortly.
