D-Link(R) Introduces Two New Fully Managed Layer 3 IPv6 Switching Solutions at Interop Las Vegas 2007
LAS VEGAS, BOOTH 1261, MANDALAY BAY CONVENTION CENTER, May 21 /PRNewswire/ — D-Link(R), the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, will showcase the latest additions to its popular xStack(TM) switch family — the xStack 3600 series — offering support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) routing, the next level of IP addressing now being adopted by government and education organizations, at Interop Las Vegas 2007.

D-Link recently launched the 12-port DGS-3612G, a Layer 3 managed switch designed for long-distance connections of more than 330 feet and will be unveiling two sister products, the DGS-3650, a 48-port version, and the DGS-3627, a 24-port version in the D-Link booth, #1261.
The move from IPv4 to IPv6 routing addresses the growing need for additional public IP addresses because each new device on the Internet is assigned an IP address, and the number of available addresses is nearly depleted. The D-Link 3600 series focuses on this need and offers a solution for demanding enterprise connectivity applications.
The xStack 3600 series of switches are designed for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMB), larger enterprise environments and public sector environments that require a managed, full-featured switch as a centralized point of termination for multiple fiber cable connections.

With support for demanding administrative and enterprise connectivity applications, the xStack 3600 series offers multi-layer, Gigabit switches that provides advanced security, high availability and the option to stack at up to 40Gbps.

Norm Bogen, an analyst with In-Stat, a leading industry research firm, said “D-Link’s support of IPv6 routing is a significant development. “To put the importance of IPv6 into perspective, it will increase the number of addresses available for networked devices from about 4.3 billion addresses to 50 octillion addresses for each of the 6.5 billion people on the Earth,” he said, adding that IPv6 address space will increase from 32 bits to 128 bits in length.
The multi-layer, Single IP Management (SIM) 3600 switch family also provides virtual stacking functionality, allowing up to 32 units to be managed via a single IP address.

The DGS-3612G is available now for purchase with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1499.99. The DGS-3650 and 3627 are expected to ship in Q3 through the company’s network of value-added resellers and distributors. Pricing will be announced when the products ship.
