Sypherlink Introduces NIE Gateway Solution for Government Data-Exchange Initiatives; Predicts Acceleration of Conformance to Federal NIEM Standard

Sypherlink, Inc., the information-management-software company with patented automated mapping and rapid virtualization software, introduced today its NIE Gateway solution for accelerating and enriching government data-sharing and intelligence efforts.
"With unique technology, pre-built interfaces to rich information sources, and conformance to the national information exchange model (NIEM), Sypherlink has put together a complete infrastructure to jump-start the data-sharing and intelligence efforts of local, state and federal agencies," said Matt Mayer, head of the company's National Security Practice and a former senior official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Sypherlink announced separately today that among the top data sources available through the NIE Gateway solution are premier information providers D&B (NYSE:DNB) and Acxiom Corporation (NASDAQ:ACXM), through its Risk Mitigation line of business.
Mayer explained that the solution enables data-sharing and intelligence efforts to quickly leverage the canonical NIEM standard, enabling government agencies to meet federal grant funding requirements and achieve increased efficiency. "Investments already made will be protected because the solution builds upon existing data-sharing efforts and minimizes the time and effort to become NIEM conformant," he said.
Sypherlink CEO James Paat said the NIE Gateway solution rapidly links disparate systems, searches data sources, maps relationships and then presents information back via a NIEM-conformant layer, enabling every connected user and provider of information to speak the same language through a single access point.
The NIE Gateway infrastructure, according to Paat, "is application agnostic and can be used to accelerate and support the creation of either a federated environment, in which disparate data sources are brought together virtually, or in a physical environment that centralizes disparate data sources."
According to Paat, a critical component of the NIE Gateway solution is its ability to leverage the new and evolving NIEM standard. "It was in partnership with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)," he said, "that the first relational NIEM-conformant data model was created. The state agency, during the conception of its statewide Florida Law Enforcement Exchange initiative (FLEX), had the foresight to ensure that its efforts would conform to the new NIEM standard."
Paat continued: "Because of the work done in and by Florida we believe that NIEM conformance by government agencies throughout the country will be accelerated. Florida has agreed it will freely share the relational model, which surely will jump-start the conformance process on a national basis."
An additional benefit of the NIE Gateway solution, according to Paat, is its ability to repurpose interface maps from one system to another and between versions of the NIEM standard, as well as with past versions of the standard, allowing organizations to benefit from previous efforts.
"Our value proposition will only grow more significant as additional users and providers of information participate," he said.
"The NIE Gateway solution overcomes the biggest challenges to government data sharing," continued Paat, "and we expect that removing roadblocks will help speed up NIEM adoption at all levels of government."
