Higher-Speed Verizon FiOS Internet Service (With Stunning Download Performance) Now Available in Money-Saving Packages for Massachusetts and Rhode Island Customers

Posted on: Thursday, 24 May 2007, 09:00 CDT

BOSTON, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Households with multiple computers, home- workers, big download appetites, a demand for high reliability, or just a yen for super-fast Internet service, can now get Verizon FiOS Internet service at up to 20 Mbps (megabits per second) downstream and 5 Mbps upstream -- at great savings in multiservice packages.

Four new offers are now available in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The offers include two-service packages of calling and FiOS Internet with either one- or two-year agreements, and three-service packages with one- or two-year agreements.

Elements of the offers are Verizon Freedom Essentials unlimited domestic calling, including the three most popular calling features (Caller ID, Call Waiting and Home Voice Mail); FiOS Internet at up to 20 Mbps downstream; and FiOS TV Premier, where available. The higher-speed offers complement the recently launched packages with FiOS Internet at the 5 Mbps download speed and 2 Mbps upload speed.

Monthly prices for the one-year, two-service bundles are $84.99 in Massachusetts and $79.99 in Rhode Island. The two-year, two-service bundles cost $79.99 a month in Massachusetts and $74.99 in Rhode Island. The three- service bundles, available only in Massachusetts, pending the introduction of FiOS TV in Rhode Island, cost $119.99 per month for one year and $109.99 for two years. The Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers this week approved Verizon's plan to offer FiOS TV in key areas of the state.

Monthly savings for the service bundles range from $9.99 to $32.98. The offers with the higher speed FiOS Internet service are $10 more than the 5/2 FiOS Internet service offers previously announced.

"Some customers can really benefit from higher-capacity broadband connections, whether due to numbers of users in the home or the kinds of things they may all be doing at once," said Eileen Cassidy, Verizon's vice president of voice and service bundles. "These offers are a notch higher in delivering value and satisfaction to customers with high-demand broadband appetites."

Cassidy said that the higher speeds will make the online experience of even casual broadband users much more gratifying; and for just $10 more than the 5 megabit speed, it's a great deal.

"Broadband has the power to directly impact lives, in the same way the Internet itself opened up the world," she said. "The information and services, the applications and downloads, that are available now need a broadband connection. And more and more, they work even better with more bandwidth.

"FiOS is our solution for our customers," she said.

Plans are for fixed terms based on new FiOS Internet agreements. Customers can sign up for the then-current package at the end of their agreement term. Early termination and FiOS Internet activation fees apply.
