HOUSTON, May 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Time Warner Telecom Inc., , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced the successful installation of a 63-site Internet protocol based virtual private network (IP VPN) and voice services solution for Houston-based NCI Building Systems Inc., the largest integrated provider of pre-engineered metal building systems, components and metal coating applications in the United States. Under the $3 million contract, Time Warner Telecom deployed the advanced voice and data network to 63 of NCI’s manufacturing, drafting and sales locations to support the design, fabrication and installation operations across the country.

“While installation was still underway, we began to immediately realize many benefits,” said Eric Brown, Chief Information Officer for NCI Building Systems. “For the first time ever, monthly reports from branch managers did not include issues regarding slow application response times. Since switching to Time Warner Telecom, I have not received complaints from users stating that they were unable to hear customers on telephone calls. The difference has been that dramatic.”

The rigorous selection process initially included 12 telecommunication providers bidding for the project. “Ultimately, NCI chose Time Warner Telecom for the robust design and competitive pricing. But the service commitment, which included a detailed process for handling chronic issues along with SLA guarantees, was the competitive differentiator,” explained Janie Mendez, telecommunications consultant with JSM Strategic Consulting, hired by NCI to implement this network upgrade. “The Time Warner Telecom account team was responsive on every level and worked jointly with the NCI team to develop a tailored architecture to meet NCI’s business objectives.”

NCI was motivated to make telecommunication changes due in part to performance issues experienced with a previously installed voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) implementation. “Since switching to Time Warner Telecom’s Ethernet technology and voice services, the quality of our VoIP calls — all our calls for that matter — has improved noticeably,” explained Quintin Prior, Information Technology Director of Operations for NCI. “The IP VPN has already proven to be a reliable and scalable telecommunications backbone for our voice and data operations in the markets where we have rolled it out.”

Time Warner Telecoms’ IP VPN solution provides NCI’s 63 locations with greater bandwidth than they previously had at a price that significantly lowered NCI’s per megabyte capacity costs. Moreover, the 100 Mbps connection between NCI’s Houston and Dallas data centers facilitates application synchronization ensuring business continuity.

“The flexibility and scalability of our Ethernet solutions were ideally suited for the scope of the NCI Building Systems deployment,” said Darin Cook, General Manager for Time Warner Telecom in Houston. “Between our network Ethernet capabilities, national fiber network and excellent relations with exchange carriers, we were able to deliver a communications infrastructure capable of helping NCI realize substantial operational efficiencies for all of its 63 locations.”
