Integrated Mobile Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) Solution Offers High-Performance, Economical Benefits for Carriers and Service Providers
TeleSym(R), Inc., provider of award-winning, high-quality and secure mobile VoIP solutions, today announced it has deployed the first carrier-class mobile VoIP solution using Intel(R) NetStructure(TM) Host Media Processing software at Ecuity Advanced Communications. Ecuity is a unified communications service provider based in Bellevue, Wash.
Ecuity customers can now place and receive phone calls over any private WiFi, public hotspot, or broadband network using Macintosh or Windows computers, or Pocket PC mobile devices. Mobile VoIP solutions are increasingly being deployed to satisfy the communication needs of today's mobile corporate professionals and workers in industries that require high levels of mobility such as retail and healthcare.
"The trend toward universal and mobile communications based on VoIP is driving the need for an easily deployable, high-quality and secure VoIP solution for traditional phone service carriers and broadband IP service providers," said Bob Hart, president and CEO of TeleSym. "Service providers and carriers now have a proven solution available for delivering carrier-class mobile VoIP to their customers."

Media Processing (HMP) Software
Service providers seeking to deploy mobile VoIP need their systems to scale technically and economically beyond the capabilities of current architectures.
TeleSym has incorporated Intel's HMP software to address the economic and technical scaling issues inherent in mobile VoIP. HMP supports top industry standards, including Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and H.323. Coupled with standards-based modular platforms such as carrier-grade servers based on Intel(R) processors, HMP software delivers reliability and lower total cost of ownership.
VoIP systems have historically lacked scalability and easy integration, especially with legacy telephony infrastructures. HMP software provides basic media services that TeleSym uses to build a flexible, scalable, and cost-effective IP media server. HMP software eliminates the need for IP processing boards with custom digital signal processor (DSP) hardware by performing IP media processing on the host processor based on Intel architecture. This results in increased performance and lower carrier costs -- enabling service providers to build their mobile VoIP business more easily and rapidly.
"Ecuity has recognized it is essential for service providers to deploy a modular, cost-effective and scalable back-end infrastructure if they are going to take full advantage of the rising demand for VoIP and IP mobility services," said Anthony Neal-Graves, general manager, Modular Communications Platform Division, Intel. "TeleSym was able to meet these requirements by using standards-based building blocks from Intel to offer cost-effective voice applications on a high-performance, feature-rich platform."
Equity's Advanced VoIP Solution
Ecuity, which provides unified telecommunications services for the small-to-medium business and residential markets, adopted HMP software and SymPhone because of the inherent reliability of each.
"The combined solution delivers the scalability, reliability, and ROI necessary for the faster and deeper deployment of mobile VoIP to our customers for a number of reasons," said Jon Schnelz, vice president, technology, with Ecuity. "Chiefly, HMP software from Intel runs on standard Intel server technology, resulting in significant reduction of capital expenditure per subscriber. In the intuitive standard-based platform, existing staff members now have the ability to manage server processes."
Additionally, Schnelz adds, "As Intel(R) Pentium(R) processor performance continues improving, an HMP software-based solution will deliver an ever-increasing density of SIP sessions, also enabling higher density for SIP-based call originations and terminations through SymPhone. Hardware costs per call will continue to decline and higher volumes of service and business will be possible. And SymPhone complements the economic and technical benefits of HMP software from Intel by delivering the security and call quality that customers demand."
