Best of Show Award to Honor Achievements by Participating Companies
The entire Network Systems Design Conference, which takes place Oct. 19-21, 2004 in San Jose's Parkside Hall, will be an excellent affair, and this year's conference highlights really are going to impress attendees. The fun begins when sessions start on Tuesday, Oct. 19. The exhibition hours are Wednesday, Oct. 20 from noon to 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving attendees plenty of time to take in all the sights and sounds of the conference.
NSDC 2004 West will include the following highlights:
-- The Best of Show Awards will honor the achievements of NPU-related companies and the hottest new technologies at a ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall.
-- Chris Hamlin, CTO of LSI Logic, will give a keynote presentation titled "System and Semiconductor Design for Billion-Node Networks."
-- Ed Frank, vice president of research and development for Broadcom, will give a keynote presentation titled "How Emerging Standards Can Build Market Success."
In addition, the following NSDC exhibitors will demonstrate some exciting new products and services:
DUNE is exhibiting its SAND Architecture, an integrated switching fabric and traffic management chipset, composed of FAP10/20V and FE200 devices. DUNE's Negev and Gobi (16-slot) full-scale chassis-based reference systems present DUNE's unique scalable solution while interoperating with two of the leading NPU vendors, Intel and Xelerated.
The Linley Group will showcase its latest technology reports, including "A Guide to Network Processors, 6th Edition,""A Guide to Access Processors" and "A Guide to Next-Generation SONET." The Linley Group provides the in-depth analysis companies need to make informed business decisions.
Agere Systems will feature its traffic management network processor family of product offerings targeting access applications such as wireless base stations and DSL access multiplexers. Agere also will show its Datamapper(TM) chip that integrates 30 functions into one and is the first to integrate traffic management on a mapping chip.
Chelsio is demonstrating the benefits of TCP/IP offload in 10Gb Ethernet over basic NIC functionality using two systems. Compared to the NIC, Chelsio's TCP/IP offload engine delivers much higher throughput while significantly reducing CPU utilization. Using benchmarks and video applications, Chelsio will show the benefits of TCP/IP offload in 10GbE.
FutureSoft will showcase the following powerful networking and communication software solutions:
-- Intelligent Switch Solution (ISS), an advanced switching and routing software system delivering leadership in Layer2/Layer3 equipment
-- VPN Router Solution, an OEM-ready router software for manufacturers of SOHO/SMB VPN routing equipment offering integrated security, networking and management capabilities
HyWire Ltd. will be featuring its new HyCEM classification engine manager architecture, designed as a main building block for classification and QoS applications. When combined with the company's classification compiler and forwarding engine, it becomes a key element of a multi-field Layers 2, 3, and 4 high-performance classifier.
Xelerated will showcase its 20G full-duplex NPU, the Xelerator(TM) X10q, in a cost-effective metro Ethernet solution. The highly scalable solution enables products ranging from 10G pizza-box to terabit-capable chassis. Xelerated also will announce details about its new Ethernet-optimized NPU, the X11. AMCC will introduce MISSION(TM) Access, an integrated network processor/traffic manager, and an integrated protocol controller (ATM/HDLC)/channelized framer/mapper, propagating Universal Port Services at Dedicated Port Economics(TM) to access networks. Participating in nine NSDC sessions, AMCC also will preview its PRS Q-80G switch fabric and offer demonstrations at booth No. 400.
Xilinx Inc. (booth No. 307) announces availability of the programmable industry's most comprehensive generic framing procedure (GFP) mapper IP core for its Virtex-4 FPGAs. The solution complements fixed-function GFP framer chips by adding a level of flexibility and enabling customers to build cost-effective solutions that protect investment in legacy systems.
Cavium Networks will showcase their NITROX Security Processors, NITROX Soho Secure Communication Processors, MIPS64(TM) Based OCTEON Network Services Processors and GOLDEN GATE Bridge Processors. The company's products deliver the most flexible, scalable and integrated solutions with performance from 10Mbps to 10Gbps, addressing requirements of broadband, enterprise and service provider networks.
StarGen, a semiconductor company specializing in advanced serial switched interconnect solutions, will be announcing a key business milestone for StarFabric, as well as the availability of a new StarFabric Software Development Kit that allows customers to take advantage of the advanced features of the company's premier PCI-expansion technology.
IDT will feature live demonstrations of its 89TSF500/89TSF552 switch fabric solution delivering seamless interoperability to the Intel(R) IXP2800 NPU; a reference platform with IDT 89TTM552/89TTM553 traffic managers; and the AMCC nP3700 NPU system containing the IDT 75K72234 NSE daughtercard. An IDT 10-Gbps high-port density packet-exchange solution also will be featured.
NEC Electronics America, Inc. is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of semiconductor products. The company offers a broad range of networking solutions from standard products to SoCs and customized products for next-generation designs. Products planned for NEC Electronics' booth #313 include QDRII SRAM, merged-logic-type embedded DRAM and ISSP(TM) structured ASICs.
Network security and flow classification market leader Hifn(TM) (Nasdaq:HIFN), will be showcasing the company's security processor line as well as demo the company's NP software tools environment including a code assembler, a performance profiler, a test case generator debugger, a tool to create a flash image on real hardware.
At NSDC, Fulcrum Microsystems will debut the PivotPoint FM1020 high-speed switch interconnect chip. The FM1020, the second device in the PivotPoint family, offers any chip-to-any chip connectivity for multi-gigabit networking systems. The device features three SPI-4.2 interfaces, 96 Gbps of throughput, three-stage flow control and ultra-low latency of 250 ns.
IP Infusion, a provider of network software for IP services platforms, delivers a set of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing solutions for communication equipment vendors. The technology helps OEMs develop innovative access, enterprise, edge, and core networking equipment while reducing development expenses and increasing time in market.
TeraChip Announces Four New Fabric Interfaces for OC48 and OC192 Applications complementing the existing TCI Switch Fabric Interface family. The new devices, targeting the OC-48 and 10G markets, connect to all leading network processor units (NPUs): Intel(R) IXP24xx and IXP28xx, EZchip(TM) NP1c and NP2 and Freescale(TM) C5e.
Cypress Semiconductor will demonstrate its Cynapse(TM) Software Platform, which reduces time-to-market and development cost while taking full advantage of the features in their NSE portfolio. Cypress architects will speak about the industry's first algorithmic NSE, the Sahasra(TM) 50000 NSE, as well as innovative uses of NSEs in standard memory applications such as hashing.

Teja NP allows networking OEMs with applications built for the Intel IXP2XXX line to easily reuse their existing code with Intel's new IXP23XX network processors.
