Sprint's Unique Peerless IP Meets Performance and Security Demands of Government Agencies

Sprint (NYSE:S) today announced that it has been competitively awarded a new contract under its GSA FTS 2001 Bridge contract, to provide a 100-site MPLS on Peerless IP network services to the Air National Guard to support their peacetime and wartime missions. Sprint's Peerless IP network is a unique national network specifically created to meet the needs of government and commercial customers who are concerned with security and denial of service attacks. This network does not have any physical or logical connectivity with the public Internet, offering public- and private-sector customers with a high level of security, unmatched survivability, operational effectiveness and employee efficiency.
This network leverages Sprint's proven and industry-leading native IP architecture to provide robust and secure MPLS VPN services to customers with sensitive security requirements. By eliminating connections to the public Internet and creating a virtual private network, Sprint provides an attractive option for agencies looking to grow or bolster their use of IP-based services.
"Sprint is committed to its federal customers by offering cost-effective, integrated solutions based upon our MPLS on Peerless IP Platform. This competitive award for the Air National Guard strengthens Sprint's commitment to its federal customers by offering them differentiated solutions," said Tony D'Agata, vice president of federal sales for Sprint. "This unique nationwide network allows Sprint to meet the performance and security demands of government customers in a unique and differentiated way versus our competitors. Our non-blocking IP core coupled with denial of service mitigation are important characteristics. In addition, with our flexible class of service capabilities, customer network utilization is more efficient."
Sprint continues to invest significantly to enhance its wireline network, which has global reach through the company's powerful IP and MPLS platform. During 2006 and 2007, Sprint expects to have invested approximately $1.4 billion in its wireline network. This year's wireline investment is aimed at enhancing MPLS VPN service, voice-over-IP (VoIP) capabilities, IP transport solutions, network footprint/Global IP expansion and increased packet access capabilities such as Ethernet. Investments will also be made to enhance managed network and security services, as well as fixed mobile convergence. The wireline backbone plays a critical role for many Sprint initiatives, including wireless traffic backhaul and the growing cable VoIP business.
