BVRP Software, a leading OEM and aftermarket provider of PC communications software, today announced an agreement with Pretec Electronics to bundle BVRP's Mobile PhoneTools and Pocket PhoneTools software with Pretec's CompactGPRS, the first GPRS/GSM card in CompactFlash (CF) form factor.
Fremont, California-based Pretec selected BVRP's mobile products to provide a complete mobile office solution with CompactGPRS, which was launched at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany today. The CompactGPRS is a Tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHZ) GPRS/GSM solution in CF card form factor that supports most Microsoft CE powered PDAs and Laptops. The CompactGPRS supports a wireless transmission rate of up to 115kb/s, enabling convenient wireless data/voice/fax and SMS services for users at any time, any place.
With an optional CF adapter from Pretec, the CompactGPRS card becomes a PC card, working with virtually all of today's notebook computers with a PCMCIA slot. Mobile PhoneTools will support Laptop PC's running Microsoft Windows 98SE and above. Additionally, the BVRP software will provide multiple language support to enable Pretec to cater to the global market.
BVRP's Mobile PhoneTools and Pocket PhoneTools enable easy access to the high-speed wireless Internet anytime, anywhere. Additionally, both products provide a graphical user interface that enables voice calls from the PDA or PC. The Mobile PhoneTools interface simulates the look and behavior of the latest mobile phone handsets from Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, Siemens, Alcatel and other leading manufacturers, provides simplified access to the main communication functions via quick access buttons and displays information on the LCD screen.
The software includes a GSM/GPRS connectivity Wizard that guides users through step-by-step GPRS connection set-up, as well as providing easy editing and management of Outlook and SIM memory databases, with direct dial features. In addition to accessing email and Web browsing wirelessly, both software products also give CompactGPRS users access to SMS and Fax capabilities.
"BVRP's superior technology and extensive experience in delivering and supporting communications software around the world makes them an ideal partner for Pretec," said Gordon Yu, president of Pretec Electronics. "BVRP's mobile office software solutions will help to quickly and efficiently unlock the power of our CompactFlash offering for PDA and PC users everywhere."
"We're very excited to be partnering with one of the leading innovators in the CompactFlash form factor," stated David Wright, executive vice president and OEM Division director, BVRP Software. "Pretec is opening high-speed wireless access over PDAs and PCs by using the same device, giving mobile workers and consumers a degree of connectivity and flexibility never before possible."
