MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 6 /PRNewswire/ — Securent, Inc., the award-winning leader in the Entitlement Management market, today announced that its Co-Founder and CTO Sekhar Sarukkai has earned a 2007 CTO 25 Award from InfoWorld magazine for being one of this year’s top CTOs changing the face of IT.

Every year, InfoWorld honors senior IT executives who have demonstrated leadership within their companies and the IT community. Nominations are reviewed and winners are selected by the InfoWorld executive editorial team. Most of this year’s CTO 25 Award winners have been responsible for major initiatives that had substantial impact on their businesses. “This year’s CTO 25 award winners are true visionaries who believe that leading edge technology equals leading edge business,” said Steve Fox, InfoWorld editor in chief. “Their constant invention and reinvention of strategic tools, coupled with an eagle eye for business opportunity, provide a blueprint for IT success.”

As highlighted by InfoWorld, “Authentication and authorization are a mess in most enterprises. But Sekhar Sarukkai has leaped ahead with a new product that follows users past the password gate of an application to enforce granular rules specific to each user … Securent’s Entitlement Management Solution (EMS) is identity authentication software on steroids. Not only does EMS enforce access to a company’s resources, but it controls access within those resources – that is, what each individual employee is entitled to do within a certain application or portal.”

Serving as Securent’s co-founder and CTO, Sarukkai leads the technology strategy and development for the company’s Entitlement Management products. Prior to founding Securent, Sarukkai was the co-founder and CTO of Confluent Software, a leading web-services security and management company ultimately purchased by Oblix. Before Confluent/Oblix, Sarukkai was the chief architect for Hewlett-Packard’s E-speak program, where he led efforts covering web- service programming models, routing, registries, and management. Prior to his E-speak work, Sarukkai worked at HP labs where he was granted many patents in the areas of parallel computing, dynamic load balancing, web caching, and one of the earliest patents on browsing the web using speech. Before joining HP, Sarukkai worked at NASA Ames Research Center. He holds Master’s a degree and PhD in Computer Science from Indiana University.

“InfoWorld is a trusted source for the latest in technology adding value to organizations, and we are proud of Sekhar for receiving this distinguished honor,” said Securent CEO Rajiv Gupta. “Over the years, Sekhar’s innovation and leadership, including among a number of industry standards bodies, has helped shape important markets today, including web services, SOA and the emerging Entitlement Management market. Here at Securent, his direction in the creation and development of our products, as well as his passion to meet the tough demands customers put on us, has helped push Securent to the forefront of the Entitlement Management space.”

Securent EMS enables organizations to secure sensitive applications and data with ease and precision. For the first time, organizations can benefit from a proven XACML standard-based solution to create, enforce, review, and audit fine-grained access policies across heterogeneous application and IT environments distributed throughout the enterprise, all with centralized management and visibility. Securent provides a more scalable and cost- effective alternative to custom coding of fine-grained access controls into applications. Loosely coupling entitlements with application services, Securent EMS is also a key infrastructure service in an effective SOA deployment. The results, as seen in Fortune 1000 deployments, include improved security and compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Basel Capital Accord (Basel II), and the National Association of Securities Dealers Rule 2711 (NASD 2711).
