To Better Manage Phone Calls and Info

Posted on: Thursday, 21 October 2004, 04:00 CDT

ALCATEL has unveiled OmniTouch Unified Communication, a solution that allows users to control and manage phone calls, messages, personal information and directories efficiently.

The company claims that OmniTouch is the first unified communications solution to implement the latest Internet technologies such as Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE), extensible markup language/service oriented architecture protocol (XML/SOAP), voice XML and session initiation protocol (SIP).

By adhering to these standards, Alcatel has enabled the integration of existing corporate resources and applications such as IBM Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and business applications like customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning.

"OmniTouch does not compete with companies like Microsoft and IBM, which provide similar solutions, instead it complements them," said Alcatel's business development director Patrick Thorel.

"We face competition from companies that provide individual components, but Alcatel provides a fully integrated solution that is J2EE-compliant with Web services solutions."

Targeted at mobile professionals in financial services, the sales force and consulting firms, OmniTouch comes with four modular applications - My Messaging, My Phone, My Assistant and My Teamwork.

Users can also access information from any location using any device with Web access such as mobile phones and personal digital assistants.
