BroadLight Expands Its Product Portfolio for GPON Residential Gateway Applications
Posted on: Wednesday, 13 June 2007, 09:05 CDT
BroadLight, the leading supplier of GPON semiconductors and software, today revealed the BL2348 GPON Residential Gateway (RG) System-on-Chip (SoC) solution for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) applications. The new BL2348 provides the performance, integration and functions for the new breed of cost-effective broadband residential gateway Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) connecting the high-speed digital home to FTTH services.
"Our success with GPON has opened new opportunities for BroadLight to use its technology and expand our product line to adjacent market applications," said Raanan Gewirtzman, BroadLight's Chief Operating Officer. "We are seeing that the FTTH market is quickly following suit with other broadband access technologies where CPE is being consolidated into a one box solution -- a residential application gateway connecting directly to the access network. Our embedded PONRunner network processor is the key element in the BL2348 enabling us to meet the cost-performance targets of the next generation RG SoCs."
The BL2348 leverages its field proven PONRunner network processor in a dual core architecture to perform the necessary layer 2, 3 and 4 packet functions with throughputs of 1Gbps. Its embedded GPON MAC creates a cost-effective single chip solution.
"The BL2348 expands BroadLight's market from Optical Network Termination (ONT) modem type applications to the emerging GPON connected home gateway. It also solidifies our clear leadership in the GPON silicon market with the embedded field proven GPON MAC," added Gewirtzman.
BroadLight has been releasing GPON semiconductor and software products to market since December 2005. Recently, BroadLight announced the BL3458 Quad GPON OLT Controller and has shipped more than 100,000 pieces of the BL2338 and BL2340 ONT SoCs. The BL2000 series' GPON MAC has proven interoperable with every ITU-T G.984 compliant optical line terminal (OLT) making it the choice of leading Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) for GPON CPE.
