Provilla Announces Partnership With Hitachi Systems & Services for Japanese Market

Posted on: Wednesday, 13 June 2007, 15:01 CDT

Establishing its presence in the Japanese data security market, Provilla, Inc., a leading provider of ultra-accurate, intelligent endpoint solutions for enterprise data leak prevention (DLP), today announced it has signed an agreement with Hitachi Systems & Services to distribute Provilla LeakProof™ to enterprise customers across Japan. With LeakProof's pioneering ability to protect data in any language, Hitachi Systems now has an effective tool customers can use with their highly mobile workforces to stop leaks of any data, any time, anywhere.

Provilla is the first to offer an intelligent endpoint content protection solution that supports any language, including the Kanji character set. Its unique capacity to operate even when offline, and when no connection to the server is available, is an important consideration in a country where data can be highly distributed, and a large proportion of workers use laptop computers. In addition, Provilla LeakProof provides comprehensive forensics and an on-demand inventory of all confidential data throughout the organization, giving Hitachi Systems & Services an ideal solution for helping enterprises meet recent Private Information Protection laws and imminent Japan Sarbanes-Oxley (J-SOX) requirements, for which Hitachi Systems already provides its own document management solution in Japan.

"In Japan, the combination of distributed, mobile data environments and strong compliance regulations is creating a need for new technology to address data leakage," said Glen Kosaka, vice president of marketing at Provilla. "Provilla LeakProof is ideally suited for these kinds of highly distributed, mobile environments, making it a great fit for the Japanese market. Hitachi Systems' understanding of and position in this market will help us make the most of this exciting opportunity."

According to Kosaka, the agreement validates Provilla's technology, which was thoroughly evaluated by Hitachi Systems & Services. The agreement expands Provilla's presence in Asia, which also includes reseller agreements in Taiwan and China.

"Provilla LeakProof will be a powerful tool to expand the Japanese data leak prevention market," said Yoshihiko Saiki, vice president and executive officer of Hitachi Systems & Services. "With LeakProof, which is implemented using Provilla's advanced DataDNA™ technology, we are confident that we are able to offer solutions to our enterprise customers to help them meet their information security needs."

According to Hitachi Systems, alliance partnerships such as this one with Provilla are central to Hitachi's overall strategy, its client service businesses, and the way in which it delivers value to its clients. Hitachi has established partnerships with more than 100 companies worldwide, and relies on them to provide its clients with solutions tailored to their specific business needs.

Enterprise-grade Provilla LeakProof quickly and unobtrusively prevents data leaks without compromising legitimate communications through superior, content-aware endpoint enforcement of granular security policies. All enforcement occurs on the endpoints by the Provilla LeakProof Agent, which intercepts any activity with the potential to move data off the endpoint. It is the only solution today that is small and efficient enough to run unobtrusively on laptops and other constrained endpoints. The agents work with Provilla's patented DataDNA technology to provide the industry's highest levels of accuracy and performance for detecting sensitive data, resulting in the fewest false positives.

Provilla LeakProof intelligently blocks the transfer of confidential data through any network or I/O port, including USB, Firewire, PCMCIA, Bluetooth, WiFi, IrDA, serial and parallel ports, including USB thumb drives, flash cards, (S)ATA and EIDE storage, printers, video cameras and other imaging devices. LeakProof also monitors connections to personal email services, instant messaging systems, web sites, ftp servers, and peer-to-peer networks. It protects laptops and PDAs even when they are offline, and works on corporate or public networks. LeakProof recognizes well over 300 file types, including MS Office files, database data, graphics and multimedia files, software and engineering files, and archive files.
