Why the Grasshoppers lost: Greensboro’s four pitchers gave up 22 hits. The loss ended a streak of solid performances by the Hoppers, who had won seven of their last eight before Saturday’s loss.
Performances worth noting: For Greensboro: Guillermo Martinez, 2- for-2; Blake Ochoa, 2-for-4, 2B. … For Kannapolis: Brandon Allen, 5-for-6, 2 RBIs; Chris Carter, 4-for-5, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs, 5 runs; Stefan Gartrell, 3-for-4, 4 RBIs.
Also worth noting: Kannapolis scored in every inning but the sixth, including five runs in the third, four in the fourth and four in the fifth. … Greensboro starter Hector Correa was shelled for eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings. His ERA is now 9.61.
The big play: Kannapolis came out slugging from the start. The Intimidators scored two runs in the first inning on a double by John Shelby and a homer by Carter. Carter added another homer in the third for his 14th and 15th of the season.
