SAN FRANCISCO, CTIA Wireless IT 2004, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- SEVEN and Sun Microsystems are working together to bring the SEVEN mobile email client to the next generation of Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME (TM)) technology-enabled mobile handsets. SEVEN's Java technology client enables secure mobile access to business and consumer email, personal contacts and corporate directories and is available for both enterprise and individual deployment.
"Mobile email will go the way of mobile phones and voicemail -- from 'nice to have' to 'must have.' It's a natural. Affordable, Java-enabled cell phones make mobile email widely accessible and are key to SEVEN's strategy," said Kent Thexton, SEVEN President and Co-CEO. "By working with leading companies in the mobile industry, SEVEN is planting the seeds to enable the growth of the mobile email market, expanding it beyond the niche it occupies today."
Java technology-enabled handsets with the SEVEN email client pre-installed complement mobile operators' smartphone portfolios, and enable operators to offer mobile email services to a broader set of subscribers as a simple add-on to existing data plans.
"Java technology continues to drive adoption of mobile data services through the 579 million Java-enabled mobile devices sold worldwide by the end of this year," said Eric Chu, Director of J2ME Business, Sun Microsystems. "Combining the ubiquitous Java platform with the SEVEN mobile email and groupware solution helps carriers push substantial growth in mass consumer use of mobile enterprise applications."
SEVEN together with its operator, device and infrastructure partners make mobile email more accessible to business users across organizations of all sizes by simplifying deployment, satisfying the most demanding enterprise security requirements and reducing total cost of ownership.
-- SEVEN-powered services are tightly integrated into the operator
network, thus handsets may be provisioned and upgraded over-the-air and
most enterprise deployments take less than one hour.
-- SEVEN's end-to-end AES encryption ensures enterprise class security.
-- SEVEN-powered mobile operator email services cost 50% less than
competing services and J2ME handsets will be offered at affordable
price points.
For the prosumer or individual, SEVEN and its operator, device and infrastructure partners make mobile email, an easy and affordable proposition. With the integration of the SEVEN email client into new J2ME enabled phones an individual can subscribe to email services through a simple registration process and one click access to their personal and business email.
