Clippz.Com -- Upstart Off-Carrier Channel for Free Device-Optimized Mobile Video Downloads

Posted on: Tuesday, 19 June 2007, 15:00 CDT

A fresh new source for free mobile video "snacks" is online with today's launch of Clippz.com (www.clippz.com), the world's first and only way to "sideload" optimized video clips from the Internet to a mobile device -- bypassing mobile carriers in the process.

Clippz.com deploys proprietary, patent-pending technology to deliver the highest level of video quality to more than 150 specific mobile video players (and a total of more than 1 billion devices worldwide) including cell phones, PDAs and portable media players including the iPod and Zune. The content is delivered in device-optimized file formats without requiring the intermediation of a mobile network, video conversion or software installation.

The technology that powers Clippz.com, Clippz Cascade, is based on an intelligent mobile video encoder than converts a single input video into multiple outputs based on a predefined set of more than 30 device profiles. Unlike other video download sites, Clippz.com enables users to get video clips that have been pre-converted into their specific mobile device's optimum file format.

Clippz.com offers a first-to-market solution that bridges the technology gap between highly specified mobile devices and low specification wireless networks used by wireless carriers. Up to now, the limiting factor for mobile video was the ability of the network to deliver data to a cell phone. With Clippz, there is no mobile network required, and the only limiting factor is the device's data capacity and resolution -- typically much higher than a mobile network supports.

For the first time, video content from popular sites like YouTube, MySpace and Metacafe can be downloaded from Clippz.com to a computer, and then sideloaded onto a mobile device in an optimized format and without having to access a mobile carrier in the process. No software or driver installation is required.

Once downloaded, video clips can be sideloaded to a mobile device one of three ways: via wireless connection using Bluetooth; by USB cable connection; or by writing directly to a memory card that can be inserted into the device. Clippz.com delivers content in four different formats -- .MP4, .3GP, 3G2 and .WMV -- for playback on cell phones, media players and PDAs.

The revolutionary result: mobile video quality that outperforms anything delivered over mobile networks, acquired without the data or media usage fees universally charged by mobile carriers. All video downloads from Clippz.com are guaranteed to be tasty, yet completely free of calories and cost.

"Clippz.com offers something absolutely new to the rapidly growing number of mobile video consumers who are using more than 1 billion devices worldwide," said Philip John, CEO of Clippz Ltd. "Sideloading device-optimized video content to a mobile device without having to go through a mobile carrier has never before been available on this scale.

"Clippz.com content is hand-picked, easy to download, optimized for each device, and free. We're very confident that Clippz.com be a popular new option and earn a loyal following from the millions of users currently frequenting the video mega-portals," he added.

At launch there are more than 500 video clips on the site, including edited, "best of" collections from YouTube, MySpace and Metacafe, with new clips added every day. A collection of new and recently released feature film trailers is also available for download. The average length of Clippz.com video content is two to three minutes -- perfect "snacks" for viewing on a mobile device and sharing with friends. Registered users may upload clips, or links to clips, for review and consideration as additions to the Clippz.com catalogue.

Clippz.com does not rely on a mobile network for content delivery and so operates independent of geography and network reach, enabling users to download wherever there is an Internet connection. And, Clippz.com enables a web-based delivery of mobile video that is entirely consistent with established patterns of downloading for portable music players. It uses a more intuitive interface for browsing content than a WAP interface on a cell phone.

Clippz also offers a Paid Placement program for advertisers and marketers.
