Soon, when a member of Stardoll visits Hilary's "Real Celeb" page they will have the opportunity to browse virtual fashion designs inspired by actual designs created by Hilary herself, which they can buy with Stardollars -- the site's virtual currency. Having recently launched her own fashion collection of tween couture -- known as "Stuff by Hilary Duff" -- the artist is recognized among her fans as a talented fashion designer with a variety of cultural influences from around the world. If members log in at the right time, they could have the opportunity to talk with her about those influences by participating in a live online chat with her.
In addition, anyone who visits Stardoll will soon be greeted by a recording of her voice welcoming them to the site and inviting them to discover her music. Today she launches a playlist of streaming songs and video from her just-released album "Dignity." Fans can listen to her music privately or can hold Hilary "Listening Parties," where they gather together in a virtual room to chat and enjoy her newest tunes. All of her fans will have the ability to access Hilary's concert tour schedule, promotional photos, and to visit the digital storefront where Stardoll members can purchase real CDs or DVDs.
"I'm extremely excited to join Stardoll," said Hilary Duff. "There's such a positive energy and passion for creativity and personal expression running through the community. I'm looking forward to sharing my music and fashion ideas with everyone."
"We're thrilled to officially welcome Hilary to Stardoll," said Stardoll Executive Vice President and General Manager Matt Palmer. "We're delighted that through this partnership we can connect her incredible success in music and fashion with our over eight million users in 200 countries worldwide. Through Stardoll Hilary will reach her loyal fans, who love both her and her music, as well as reach millions who will discover her fabulous talents."
Stardoll's new digital music platform enhances the existing ways that the community enjoys the site:
-- They create their own "MeDolls," which they design in their own likenesses by choosing from a variety of virtual chins, eyes brows, skin tones, hair styles, lips, faces, eye colors and facial shapes; -- They accessorizes those avatars with a number of virtual Stardoll brands tailored to girls with different fashion interests-from the "Fallen Angel" line of Goth styles to the "Pretty in Pink" line of 80s fashions; -- They furnish their own virtual suites with pets, furniture and posters by shopping with Stardollars-the site's currency; -- They craft well thought out promotional campaigns to become the next Stardoll Magazine cover girl by broadcasting messages to the entire site and petitioning the community for their vote. Generally, when the cover girl is announced the next time she visits her virtual suite she'll have dozens of virtual gifts from members across the world congratulating her. (Interestingly, one of the most popular gifts is a virtual Dutch porcelain pig.)
One of the few places on the Internet designed specifically with girls' interests in mind, Stardoll began as the hobby of Scandinavian-born Liisa, a retired factory worker in her late 50s with a lifelong aspiration to become a famous fashion designer. She taught herself basic design programs on her computer and shared her fashion creations with a few friends. With the help of her son, she then posted those fashions on the Internet for others to see, and soon Stardoll grew into a passionate online community of millions of teens and tweens from more than 200 countries across the globe.
