Wasabi Systems and Studio Network Solutions Announce iSCSI SAN Solution for Studio and Broadcast Media Applications
Posted on: Tuesday, 26 October 2004, 10:00 CDT
Wasabi Systems Inc (Wasabi) and Studio Network Solutions (SNS), introduced a jointly developed IP SAN solution for digital media applications at Storage Networking World today. This is the first IP SAN solution that supports Apple Computer's OS X operating system and Microsoft Windows, simultaneously.
The two companies have combined their engineering expertise to deliver an optimized iSCSI storage solution targeting A/V professionals that demand exceptional performance and value in high performance studio applications. The joint solution includes Wasabi's industry leading iSCSI target software solution, Storage Builder 1500i(TM) and SNS's, globalSAN(TM) X-8 and X-16.
Wasabi Storage Builder for iSCSI Appliances is a fully integrated compact flash based solution for deploying advanced iSCSI-enabled storage devices using off the shelf server components. Based on Storage Builder 1500i, SNS's globalSAN platforms deliver up to 4 Terabytes of high performance storage. Coupled with SNS's volume sharing software, iSANmp(TM) users can now access iSCSI storage from either Windows or Apple OS X-based platforms.
"The combination of forces that Wasabi and Studio Network Solutions bring together is ideal for targeting and expanding the audio/visual and production media markets," said Frank G. Logan, III, Wasabi's President and CEO. "globalSAN is an exceptional storage product for audio and video production environments. This is an exciting opportunity for both companies and we anticipate exceptional growth in this market."
"Wasabi's iSCSI Storage Builder product is exactly the foundation we needed to develop our globalSAN OS X/Windows solutions," said Gary Holladay, President of SNS. "In fact, it exceeded our expectations! By working closely with the Wasabi team, we were able to develop a solution that our Media and Entertainment customers have long been seeking - a viable, cost-effective alternative to Fibre Channel. In addition, we have the confidence of knowing that we can quickly evolve our iSCSI product family to the needs of our target market. We are very excited about this partnership."
Wasabi is demonstrating the Windows version of the globalSAN solution based on the Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processor in the Intel Partners booth at the ComputerWorld Storage Networking World trade show, October 26 - 28. Wasabi will be demonstrating the MAC OS X version it its own booth.
