Photobucket Enables Third Party Web Sites to Embed Instant Digital Media Search

Posted on: Monday, 25 June 2007, 09:05 CDT

Photobucket, the world's largest personal media site, today announced the launch of the Photobucket Media Plug-in 2.0, an enhanced version of its free image and video hosting plug-in, originally launched in June 2006. The Photobucket Media Plug-in offers an easy way for developers of Web sites to tap into Photobucket's vast collection of media assets. It allows users of participating Web sites to search for billions of publicly stored photos, videos and images from Photobucket's extensive library, and access their existing Photobucket media accounts -- all without leaving partner sites. Since its launch in June 2006, the Photobucket Media Plug-in has been successfully deployed by hundreds of Web sites. The Photobucket Media Plug-in 2.0 will be available for partner Web sites before the end of June 2007.

Each day more than 25 million searches are conducted across Photobucket's public library of photos, images and videos. Users of partner sites will now be able to search for that same content to upload and share more quickly to their own sites. Partner Web sites that embed the Photobucket Media Plug-in benefit from having users spend more time on their sites, providing immediate access to Photobucket's extensive image and video library and offering Photobucket's rich digital media search to their users.

"Photobucket revolutionized digital media sharing by enabling content to be linked to third party sites," said Alex Welch, CEO of Photobucket. "Adding search to Photobucket's Media Plug-in's instant image and video uploading features brings an extremely compelling service option for our partners. We've seen a tremendous surge in photo, image and video search, with users consistently coming back to look for the latest user-generated content to share with the world. Now, our partners can receive free digital media hosting and search, vastly improving their user experience and engagement."

"RockYou is committed to working with companies that enhance the experience of our users," said Lance Tokuda, CEO and co-founder, RockYou. "Photobucket's Media Plug-in is yet another way to leverage our slide show offering and viral capabilities to provide RockYou users with a dynamic way to access Photobucket's library of images on their favorite RockYou slide show widget."

Photobucket's Media Plug-in can enable any Web site's users access to media stored within their account on Photobucket. Integration is straightforward, and partners can customize colors, layouts, fonts and sizes so that the plug-in fits with each partner's Web site brand.

Current leading Photobucket Media Plug-in partner sites include: CherryTAP, Freewebs, Gaia Online, LiveJournal, Piczo, RockYou, Slide, Tagged and others.
