Science and Religion Articles of Distinction, www.sciencereligionarticles.org, is now open to the research community and all who are interested in the growing global dialogue between science and religion. The site currently houses fifteen hundred articles from twenty diverse and prestigious publications, and more articles and publications will be added each month.
The Science and Religion Articles of Distinction Web site is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and managed by Templeton Foundation Press. In announcing the launch of the site, John M. Templeton, Jr., M.D., president of the John Templeton Foundation, commented, "The original idea for the Science and Religion Articles of Distinction Web site was my father's. Sir John believes that rigorous research and cutting-edge scholarship is at the very heart of new discoveries and human progress. He saw that provocative and intriguing insights on these topics were being published in articles, and he envisioned a Web site where people could view the articles and download them."
Through a collaborative partnership arrangement, hundreds of archived articles from diverse publications now can be previewed without having to link to different sites. Searches may be done by category, keyword, author, or publication. Articles may then be "bundled" into a shopping cart that contains both free articles and articles that have a fee, and downloaded.
Joanna Hill, publisher of Templeton Foundation Press, adds, "There is so much news today that it is easy to miss fascinating analyses, announcements, and stories. This Web site brings them together in one location and shows the breadth and depth of information and scholarship that is being published."
Under the direction of Ion Grumeza, Project Director, articles are selected from authoritative sources that partner with the Web site, including scholarly journals, general consumer magazines, and books. Newspapers/periodicals, news magazines, and other types of publications will be included in the future. There are news announcements, research reports, feature articles, essays, book chapters, editorials, and interviews in the categories of biology and religion, cosmology, forgiveness and reconciliation, God and humans, humanistic disciplines, philosophy and theology, physical sciences, politics/social issues and religion, science and religion, social sciences and religion, and spirituality and health, along with "thinkpieces" on various issues.
The Web site also features research tools, such as an encyclopedia, dictionary, thesaurus, translator, and Wikipedia, and a listing of upcoming events in the science-religion field.
