Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERICY) has signed a managed services contract with Sun Cellular in the Philippines for the integration, implementation and hosting of a service that allows Sun Cellular customers to enjoy an exciting array of audio and video content on their mobile phones.
Ericsson will also be responsible for the aggregation and management of content for Sun Cellular's streaming service, as well as round-the-clock operation and maintenance of the hosted solution.
Ericsson will provide the video streaming services on Sun Cellular's GSM network through its Ericsson Content Delivery System (ECDS). ECDS is a scalable system based on the 3GPP standard. It is designed for fast and secure implementation into the mobile network and enables telecom specific functionalities such as session management, traffic control, quality of service monitoring, single sign on and online charging support.
"Ericsson's hosting offering is a cost-effective way for operators to introduce advanced mobile applications to market quickly," said Charles Lim, CEO of Sun Cellular. "Consumer expectations are getting higher and we believe that providing video streaming will allow the end-user a richer experience when they use their mobile phones. We are confident that Ericsson will be a good partner in delivering the quality service that our customers expect from Sun Cellular."
Ericsson's hosting offering includes applications and enablers, as well as content such as music, entertainment and games provided by Ericsson's content partners. Ericsson takes the responsibility for integration, round-the-clock operation and maintenance through regional operation centers.
"This contract is yet another confirmation of Ericsson's world leadership in managed services," said Hans Vestberg, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Services, Ericsson. "We are helping operators to achieve fast time to market in a cost-efficient and easy way."
