TDK Semiconductor's New NDS-Approved 73S8024RN is Now Available in Volume
Posted on: Wednesday, 27 October 2004, 18:00 CDT
TDK Semiconductor Corp., a leader in the design and manufacture of mixed-signal semiconductors for world markets, today announced its new 73S8024RN single smart card interface integrated circuit (IC), which is fully approved by NDS and ideal for applications requiring compliance with the ISO-7816-3 and EMV4.1 standards.
"With the NDS approval of the 73S8024RN, we are able to meet the immediate market demand," said Jean-Christophe Doucet, senior product line manager at TDK Semiconductor. "Our consumer electronics customer base wanted a better answer for both performance and delivery and TDK's 73S8024RN provides the solution."
The 73S8024RN is fully approved by NDS for use with NDS' VideoGuard(R) Conditional Access solution in set-top boxes, digital TVs and Personal Video Recorders (PVRs). The TDK 73S8024RN has an increased card clock frequency range to accept the most advanced smart cards used by NDS, making it suitable for today's NDS requirements and for the future NDS high-frequency requirements.
73S8024RN can be used in conjunction with any host microcontroller and it utilizes TDK's proven Low-Drop-Out (LDO) voltage regulator, making it lower in cost and better in performance than competitive devices. TDK's LDO-based chips exhibit improved noise performance relative to typical step-up converter-based ICs, while making standards compliance easier. The innovative LDO architecture allows the IC to provide the card with up to 90mA minimum, making the 73S8024RN the most capable part in the market.
Availability
The TDK 73S8024RN is available off-the-shelf in SO28 and QFN32 packages, making it a direct replacement for current solutions using competitors' parts and also the smallest footprint device on the market for new designs. Pricing starts at $1.17 each in 10k quantities. Demo boards and application notes for NDS and EMV implementations are available.
