Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR) announced today the availability of its VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone service in Texas. Clearwire customers in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls can subscribe to Clearwire Internet Phone Service.
"We're excited to introduce an affordable, easy-to-install voice option that, bundled with our wireless high-speed Internet service, provides customers dependable Internet and high-quality phone service," said Keith Kay, Clearwire's regional general manager for Texas. "What differentiates Clearwire from other VoIP providers is that our service operates across our existing wireless network, which enables us to offer dependable, high-quality voice communications."
Clearwire Internet Phone Service provides an array of features to help customers more efficiently manage their phone service. Features include a local phone number -- something not available through all VoIP providers -- unlimited local and long-distance calling within the United States and Canada, competitive international calling rates, call forwarding, advanced call forwarding, caller ID, voice mail, voice mail to e-mail, three-way calling, call screening and international call blocking. Unlike traditional telephone services, Clearwire customers will be able to access and manage their phone features by using the web dashboard which is easily accessible through any Internet connection. In addition, Clearwire will only sell service to those customers who are able to receive VoIP 911/E911 service at their location.
Clearwire Internet and voice service is sold at the company's retail stores and any authorized retailer locations in Texas. Customers can also buy Clearwire Internet Phone Service by calling toll free at 888-CLEARWIRE or visiting clearwire.com.
How Clearwire Internet Phone Service Works
Clearwire Internet Phone Service works by sending calls over the Internet as packets of data, then converting those packets back into sound prior to transmission to a traditional phone network at a switching facility.
Like Clearwire wireless high-speed Internet service, Clearwire Internet Phone Service features simple plug-and-play installation, requiring no special software or an installation appointment. And it works with a customer's existing phone.
When signing up for service, customers receive an Internet phone adapter that is about the size of a small desktop calendar. The box is installed by the customer who simply plugs in the power, connects it to the Clearwire wireless broadband service, and connects any existing phone. Once installation is complete the customer activates his or her account online at clearwire.com and can begin making calls.
