Cuero Church of Christ Welcomes All
By Victoria Advocate, Texas
Jun. 30–CUERO — The first sentences in the Church of Christ newsletter, “House to House, Heart to Heart,” summarizes well the church’s philosophy. It reads, “The Church of Christ is a growing, friendly church. We are a diverse congregation that reflects the fact that God’s church is for all people.” At the Cuero Church of Christ, 1100 E. McArthur St., elder Bob Wheeler said that “several young, married couples with children” are sprinkled in among the congregation of about 70 worshipers.
“Many in our congregation are senior citizens,” Wheeler said. “But everyone is welcome to join us.”
Pastor Jerry Yarbrough has lead services as pulpit minister since last November and Daryl Parsons heads the family ministry and youth ministry. The Cuero church is self-governed by local elders.
The traditional services are centered on the Church of Christ doctrine of “seeking to be the same church one reads about in the New Testament.”"We aim to restore its doctrine, it’s practice, its lifestyle, and its seal,” according to the church’s bi-monthly publication that is mailed to homes in the Cuero zip code.
The church has two worship services on Sunday, at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. There are also Bible study sessions at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and on Wednesday at 7 p.m. A ladies’ Bible class also meets once a week.
In addition, the church offers marriage counseling by appointment, a suicide prevention class, food pantry, clothes closet and home Bible study. Three times a month the church also conducts worship services at 4 p.m. at the Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
