Posted on: Tuesday, 2 September 2003, 06:00 CDT

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- As the fashion and entertainment communities gather for one of the world's premier fashion events, the trend savvy will notice a hot new communications accessory in their midst -- the Siemens SL56 mobile phone. Siemens Mobile today announced its sponsorship of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and in conjunction with the event will debut the SL56 with its revolutionary sliding design. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runs from Sept. 12-19 at Bryant Park in New York City and approximately 40,000 people are expected to attend.

Drawing its origins from a global network of inspired designers and fashion consultants, the SL56 phone is the newest mobile device for the fashion-conscious. The phone departs from the traditional candy bar and clamshell designs with a slider design that is eye-catching, small and easy- to-use. Users slide open the illuminated keypad to make calls, send basic text messages or compose more animated messages with sound and graphics.

Similar to the way a fashion designer looks to different influences for his or her creation, Siemens bases its designs on the latest trends and styles. Siemens works closely with Designafairs, one of the largest creative agencies in Europe, to provide innovative design concepts and input on how its mobile phones should look and feel. With more than 100 employees in Germany, China and the United States, Designafairs shapes Siemens' foundation of influence for creating communications devices and accessories that match people's lifestyles and tastes. Designers draw inspiration from materials, textiles, colors and shapes that will set the trends for the next five years and adapt these elements to all parts of the mobile phones.

"Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is the perfect sponsorship fit for Siemens mobile phones," said Bernt Klein, senior vice president and general manager of the Mobile Phones unit, North America region, within Siemens Information and Communication Mobile LLC. "The fashion industry has a huge influence on our mobile phone design and this puts us right in the center of the action. The event is stylish, unique and trendy -- exactly like our products. Consumer electronics are becoming part of the fashion world and this is the perfect place to make our product debut."

As the official mobile phone sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Siemens will have a significant presence through SL56 phone giveaways to models and the media, limited edition Siemens giveaways in VIP gift bags, and branded signage in the Bryant Park tents. Siemens is also a sponsor of the VOGUE and W Hotels kick-off party on Sept. 10 in Manhattan. Top supermodels, the fashion media and VIP guests will toast the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with the hot new Siemens SL56.
