Engenio and IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center Achieve Integration Through Standards
Posted on: Tuesday, 2 November 2004, 09:00 CST
MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Engenio Information Technologies, Inc., formerly LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., today announced that the company's storage arrays now leverage the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center using SNIA's Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S).
The IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Data is now certified compatible by Engenio with the company's storage array technology. Using the SMI-S interface, the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Data provides a comprehensive capacity management solution including enterprise-wide reporting and monitoring, and policy-based management to improve utilization, capacity planning, and application availability on Engenio storage arrays.
"This compatibility certification allows improvement of data center efficiency and availability using standards-based storage solutions for enterprises. It also provides customers a critical tool to help monitor and optimize their storage environment including subsystem reporting and asset information," said Laura Sanders, vice president, IBM TotalStorage Open Software.
With management of storage resources for Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and Direct Attached Storage (DAS) in heterogeneous environments, the software provides organizations with the ability to gather and report information about any storage hardware device in their network, regardless of vendor. It also tracks storage usage by department or large storage volume users, and provides policy management capabilities, allowing parameters to be set, alerts to be generated and automated actions to be prescribed.
"Engenio remains committed to simplifying the day-to-day lives of IT managers through standardized storage management interfaces," said Julie Ryan, Engenio Manager of Alliances. "The work that we have done with IBM to integrate our products through SMI-S is yet another step forward in helping customers optimize their storage environments and improve their application availability."
The Engenio Certified Compatible process requires extensive testing to assure stability, interoperability, and high availability using heavy loads typical of high performance enterprise computing.
