SpectraLink Launches Certification Program for Third-Party Messaging Applications

Posted on: Wednesday, 3 November 2004, 09:00 CST

BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SpectraLink Corporation , a leader in enterprise wireless communications, announced today the launch of its SpectraLink Certified Messaging Application (SCMA) program. The SCMA program provides development, testing, and promotional support to third-party providers of text messaging applications utilizing SpectraLink's Open Application Interface (OAI). The program includes product interoperability and functional testing by an independent testing lab to increase customer confidence that third-party messaging applications will perform to their expectations. Customers and resellers wanting to incorporate text-messaging applications with SpectraLink Wireless Telephones now have the confidence of SCMA certification to select best-of-breed products that have met SpectraLink's rigorous testing requirements.

Text messaging applications further enhance the mobile communications value of SpectraLink Wireless Telephones by providing messages and alerts from nurse call, patient monitoring, point-of-sale, plant automation, and other critical enterprise systems. SpectraLink's OAI enables applications to write to the handset display, read user key presses, and initiate telephone call controls.

Through the SCMA program OAI application developers have access to the OAI protocol specifics and handset simulation software, lab-testing equipment, and live support resources. Compatibility testing takes place at an independent lab facility. Already, eight companies offer applications that have met the SCMA certification requirements: Dukane Communication Systems, Emergin Inc., GlobeStar Systems Inc, Indyme Electronics, Inc., Jeron Electronic Systems, Inc., OnSite Communications, Rauland-Borg Corporation, and Wescom Products, Inc.

"More and more businesses are recognizing the productivity returns of improving employee workstyles with critical communications, anytime, anywhere in the workplace," said Jill Kenney, SpectraLink Executive VP of Sales and Marketing. "Customers and resellers electing to add function and value to their SpectraLink Wireless Telephone investment now can select application products that have passed SpectraLink compatibility tests."
