Climate Change Doubles Risk of Turbulence to Aircraft

April 9, 2013

Air passengers could see the ‘fasten seatbelts’ sign coming on more often by 2050, according to scientists at the University of Reading. Climate change models show clear air turbulence over the Atlantic will increase by between 40% and 170%, compared to pre-industrial levels, as a result of increased carbon emissions in the atmosphere – increasing the risks to aircraft and passengers.
