Conga Line of Active Solar Regions

September 26, 2012

This video shows the Sun from September 22 through September 24, 2012 and is in the 171 angstrom wavelength.

This channel shows us the coronal loops, those extending arcs where plasma moves along the magnetic field lines. You can clearly see the bright “conga line” of active regions.

Sometimes the magnetic field comes up into the corona from the lower regions and loops back down into the Sun. As particles follow the path created by the magnetic field they form loops and arches that can be seen with special telescopes and filters.

None of these active regions produced any significant solar flares during these 3 days.
