10 Tips To A Great Summer

With the start of summer upon us, we start thinking of things to do on the weekend and how to keep the kids busy. Here are a few things that may just help accomplish that and also to stay safe during this summer.

#1 Weather is always a big player in whichever season it maybe, but the summer is a when the United States experiences some of its most severe weather such as Tornadoes and Hurricanes. The best tip for this is to be prepared. If the National Weather Service issues a watch or warning, heed to the advice. This will allow for you to have a great time in the outdoors and still be safe from the weather.

#2 Heat is no stranger to summer as temperatures start to soar near that 100F mark. If you are going to be outside for any prolonged period of time, it’s important to keep yourself hydrated with plenty of fluids from water to Gatorade.

Also taking breaks from the heat is a good idea. If you are out working in the sun for long periods of time, look for cover and take a break in the shade. Make sure the kids have plenty of sunscreen on when heading outdoors.

#3 Rest is another big topic. With the summer heat many people will feel tired after spending long periods of time outdoors, so it’s important to take a break and get plenty of rest during the evening and if possible sneak away and get that afternoon cat nap in.

#4 Waterparks have to be one of the favorite things for kids and adults to enjoy during the summer. No matter if it’s riding the water slide for the 100th time or just sitting in the lazy water pool absorbing the sun. Make sure to take plenty of breaks and plenty of sunscreen as the water acts as a huge reflector of sunlight and works just like a small oven towards your body.

#5 Boating is always a favorite past time of many people. Getting out to feel the wind through their hair or just the feeling of the waves splashing up on the side of the boat. Some important safety things to remember is to make sure there is a life jacket for everyone onboard just in case. Also pay attention to the weather forecast to find out the latest wind and seas forecast so that you don’t get stuck in a storm or waves that are larger than the boat can handle.

#6 Walking is another chance for the family to bond and get some good exercise in as well. A few things to remember about walking is that the best times to walk are early in the morning before the summer heat starts and also during the evening hours just around sunset. If walking near higher grass or areas that are prone to bugs don’t forget the bug spray. Also a bottle of water and a hat on the head make for a more enjoyable time on the walk.

#7 Going to the Zoo is a popular thing to do during the summer. The best time to go would be right when they open and right before they close. The reason for this is that the animals are just like us they sense the heat and run for cover so you are less likely to see the animals as they will be hiding in the shade or in their shelters.

#8 Gardening is also fun. Let the little ones get into gardening so they can enjoy watching their plants grow from the little seed in the ground to food producing plants. Let them keep a journal and take photos to see how the garden progresses. When it comes to taking care of the garden the best time for watering is right before 10AM or after 7PM as this allows the ground time to cool off and lets the plants get the water not the air through evaporation.

#9 Picnics are always fun for the whole family. From eating outside to the smell of the charcoal that is used to cook the food. A few important things to remember is that when cooking outdoors make sure to keep a bucket of water at your side. You just might need it if a spark gets out of the grill, especially when using the ground pits. This allows for rapid action and not a forest fire to be started.

#10 Camping is always popular during the summer months. A few things to remember when camping is to make sure to take plenty of water and drinks for the family. Also take sunscreen and even take the right type of clothing such as white t-shirts which will help keep the temp down and allow you to not feel so uncomfortable. Also make sure to take the bug spray as the bugs like to go camping too.

Have yourself a great summer
