Alexis Ohanian

Born on April 24, 1983, Alexis Ohanian is an American internet entrepreneur, activist and investor based in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for co-founding the social news website Reddit, helping launch travel search website Hipmunk, and starting social enterprise Breadpig.

Ohanian attended the University of Virginia in 2005 and went on to start with co-founder Steve Huffman. Reddit was later acquired by another company, but Ohanian, stays closely connected by being on its Board of Directors. He now focuses on social enterprise Breadpig.

Alexis has spoken at universities including MIT, Yale, Carnegie Mellon, UPenn, NYU, Columbia, UCLA, the University of Michigan, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Virginia to name a few; lectured at conferences like TED, the Clinton Global Initiative, SXSW, and ROFLCON; spoken to companies such as Google, BBDO, and Betaworks; hired for talks at Johnson & Johnson, Hyatt, Kraft, and Palantir.

He even keynoted an entrepreneurship summit in Cairo organized by the US State Department just months after the Egyptian Revolution.

In October 2012, Ohanian teamed up with Reddit General Manager Erik Martin and embarked on the Internet 2012 Bus Tour from Denver, CO to Danville, KY to campaign for the open Internet during the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates. One of the campaign stops spurred the idea for a possible “National Geek Day.” in Washington DC.
