The Bolognese is a companion dog and a descendent of the Bichon group. The Bolognese stands from 9 to 12 inches tall and generally weighs 8 to 11 pounds. It is a small, white dog with a curly, wooly coat. It has large, dark eyes and an extremely compact body.

The Bolognese is friendly and playful. It is an intelligent dog, eager to please and easy to train. The breed has very acute hearing and will generally bark at strange noises, yet the Bolognese is usually reserved around strangers. The breed makes an excellent family pet and will live from 12 to 14 years.
