The Bombay is a Burmese type cat with a black coat, paw pads and nose, and green or copper eyes. The American Bombay was created by crossing an American Shorthair with a Burmese, while in the UK it was created by crossing Burmese with domestic black cats, and is part of the Asian group. The Bombay was originally bred for the purpose of creating a domestic cat that resembled a wild panther.
The black coat of a Bombay is very silky, short, and close to the body and therefore does not require grooming. The Bombay exhibits a muscular body with a wide round head and a short tapered muzzle. Its copper colored eyes are wide set and rounded as are its ears.
