The Cirneco dell’Etna is a Sicilian sight hound, traditionally used for hunting rabbits. As far as Mediterranean sight hounds go, this breed is the smallest. However, what it lacks in size it makes up for with speed over rough terrain and endurance. It is said that Phoenician traders brought them to Sicily over 3,000 years ago.
The Cirneco dell’Etna is commonly kept as a show dog. It is fairly low-maintenance and is also friendly. It does need some exercise, due to its heritage. The breed typically stands from 17 to 20 inches tall and weighs between 22 and 26 pounds.
