The Cybook Gen3 is an e-Reader designed for reading e-books, e-news, and for listening to audio books or MP3 music. It was produced by Bookeen, a French company, and released on October 29, 2007.
The display is a six-inch E-Ink screen using 166 dpi, black and white, 2-bit grayscale and on the gold edition 8-bit grayscale was used. The screen is readable under sunlight and only uses the battery for turning pages, giving it 8,000 page flips of battery life.
The Gen3 uses a 200MHz CPU; 400MHz in the Gold edition. Storage has 64 MB in revision 1, 512 MB in revision 2, and 1 GB in the Gold edition. External storage using an SDHC card will give up to an extra 8 GB on all versions. Memory in versions 1 and 2 is 16 MB RAM, and Gold edition has 32 MB RAM.
The Gen3 connects to a host computer through a USB port for copying content onto the device and is compatible with all major operating systems. It uses true type fonts, supports PDF files and can view images in the JPEG, GIF, and PNG files. It can also play MP3 music files. Large files have been claimed to crash the system and a hard reset must be performed by the reset button on the back of the device.
