Dark-Winged Groundling, Brachythemis fuscopalliata

The dark-winged groundling (Brachythemis fuscopalliata) is a species of dragonfly that can be found in a large range that includes Iran, Israel, and Turkey, and about 32 other areas. It prefers to reside in many habitats like freshwater marshes, lakes, and ponds and man-made areas like canals, ditches, and irrigated lands. The population numbers of this species are currently unknown and it is threatened by habitat loss due to drainage and destruction of swamplands, as well as pesticides. Conservation efforts utilized for this species include habitat conservation and pollution control. The dark-winged groundling appears on the IUCN Red List with a conservation status of “Vulnerable.â€
