The Furioso-North Star is a breed of horse originating in Hungry. Two stallions contributed to the development of the Furioso-North Star. A Thoroughbred named Furioso was bred with Hungarian mares beginning in 1841. The second stallion was a Thoroughbred named North Star who was bred with local mares of Norfolk Trotter descent.
The Furioso bloodline was a riding horse and the North Star bloodline was a driving horse. These two breeds were kept separate until the late 1800s when they were crossbred to produce the Furioso-North Star horse. It became a popular horse in Romania, however, it is now considered to be an endangered species there.
The breed is a medium to heavy horse. It is durable, capable for light farm work and in northeast Europe it is bred for competition and harness.
The average height of the Furioso-North Star is 64 inches and can be bay, liver chestnut or black in color.
