German Bulldog

The German bulldog, known in the German language as the Bullenbeisser, is an extinct breed of dog that was noted for its agility and strength. The name Bullenbeisser translates to bull-biter and it was thought to be related to or the same as the Bärenbeisser (bear-biter). The extinction of this breed was caused by excessive crossbreeding, like the old time bulldog, but it was used by German dog breeders to create the modern boxer in the 1870s. The breed reached a height between 1.3 and 2.2 feet and highly resembled the Dogo Argentino and the Spanish Bulldog.
