Green Hawker, Aeshna viridis
The green hawker (Aeshna viridis) is a species of dragonfly that is native to many areas including Austria, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Russia, and Sweden, among many other areas. It prefers to reside near calm lakes, marshes, swamps, rivers, and areas where the aquatic plant Stratiotes aloÃ¯des is present. The species is threatened by habitat loss in some areas of its range, but it does hold a stable population. It is protected by law in all areas of its range that are part of the European Union and there is a conservation plan devoted to it in the Netherlands. The green hawker appears on the IUCN Red List with a conservation status of â€œLeast Concern.
