The Mioritic is a large sheep dog from the Carpathian Mountains in Romania. It was bred to guard herds in the mountains and is exceptionally bold.

The breed weighs 110 to 132 pounds and stands 25 to 30 inches tall. It is a massive breed, and its thick hair makes it appear even larger. Its hair can be any color from white to orange.

The Mioritic is an extremely disciplined breed. It is calm and well-mannered, especially if it is properly socialized and trained at a young age. It is also incredibly loyal and will do nearly anything for those it is protecting. The breed’s strength contributes to its protective value. It makes an excellent pet and guard dog; it has been known to take on foxes, wolves, and bears.
