Pallas’s Long-tongued Bat, Glossophaga soricina
Pallas’s long-tongued bat (Glossophaga soricina) is native to Central and South America. It has the fastest metabolism of all mammals, and feeds on nectar. Fifty percent of its stored fat can be used in one day, although it mainly uses eighty percent of its energy, derived from simple sugars, to function. Pallas’s long-tongued bat is listed on the IUCN Red List as a species of “Least Concern”.
