Queen Triggerfish, Balistes vetula

The Queen Triggerfish (Balistes vetula) is a reef dwelling fish that which resides in the Atlantic Ocean. This fish is sometimes kept in marine aquariums or caught as a gamefish.

This fish is rather large and may grow to be about 24 inches. It is usually brown with blue lines on its head and fins.

Due to its size and aggressive nature, the Queen Triggerfish is not the best choice for a marine aquarium. However, if provided its proper environment this fish may be an exuberant fish. Five hundred gallons of water is necessary for the Queen Triggerfish because it does grow so large so fast. It has been argued by some sources that it can be kept in 125 gallon aquarium even after it has reached its adult size but it is unlikely to flourish.

The Queen Triggerfish feeds on invertebrates. In aquariums this fish feeds on squid, octopus, shrimp, scallops and crab.
