Red Myotis, Myotis ruber

The red myotis (Myotis ruber) can be found in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. This South American bat can be found in a few protected areas in Brazil, but it is threatened by habitat loss and deforestation in the majority of its range. This species is dependent upon a fragile habitat, so even though it does appear to have a wide distribution across its range, it is thought that habitat loss will cause it decline quickly. The red myotis appears on the IUCN Red List with a conservation status of “Near Threatened.”
